Compare labels, and always look for the word "fresh" - you'll find it on locally grown Foster Farms chicken and turkey. Where you won't find the word "fresh" is on poultry that's been frozen, shipped from out of state and thawed. Since passage of new labeling laws in 1997, the word "fresh" is only applied on poultry products that have never been stored below a rock-hard 26°F. Currently there's no special labeling for poultry that's been stored between 1°F and 25°F - it just can't be labeled "fresh." So, if your poultry label does not say "fresh," it probably is not.
