Gearing up for a big grilling weekend? You can have your hot dog and eat it too – without all the fat and calories. Foster Farms turkey franks were just named top dog by a panel of foodies (including chefs from high-end restaurants), all of whom said they would buy the hotdogs for themselves.

Inducted into the San Francisco Chronicle’s Taster’s Choice Hall of Fame, Foster Farms turkey hot dogs were described as having “excellent flavor,” “good texture” and “nicely spiced.” Tasters felt Foster Farms turkey franks could “double as a classic hot dog.” And they have 50 fewer calories and 4 grams less fat than leading all-beef hotdogs (which have 190 calories and 16 grams of fat).

Try a Foster Farms turkey frank this weekend and let us know what you think! Our turkey franks are widely available at local grocery stores and club stores.

Taster’s Choice Hall of Fame is an honor given to those products that score at least 80 out of 100 points. Panelists were Linda Anusasananan, food writer and consultant, San Mateo; Shelley Handler, consultant, San Francisco; Janny Hu, San Francisco Chronicle staff writer; Emily Luchetti, pastry chef, Farallon, San Francisco; and Roland Passot, chef-owner, La Folie and three Left Banks.
