TWO OREGON REGIONAL FINALISTS WIN $1,000, MOVE ON TO FINALS OF FOSTER FARMS CHICKEN COOKING CONTEST
Congratulations to Russell Kool of Hillsboro and Timmy Baker of Eugene

9/1/2010
PORTLAND – Oregonians Russell Kool of Hillsboro and Timmy Baker of Eugene today were named winners in the Oregon Regional Finals of the first-ever Foster Farms West Coast Chicken Cooking Contest held at Le Cordon Bleu in Portland. Each of these Regional Finalists won a $1,000 cash prize and will now compete at the Finals in person on September 17, 2010, at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, in California’s Napa Valley. A $10,000 grand prize and a one-year supply* of fresh Foster Farms chicken will be awarded to the Contest’s grand prize winner.

During today’s Regional Competition, judges Katherine Miller, food editor of The Oregonian, Kelly Clarke, arts and culture editor of Willamette Week, Hayley Platt, co-host of KOIN Studio 6 and Kimberly Maus, co-anchor of “Good Day Oregon,” selected Kool’s Basil Fontina Fondue Chicken Tenders and Baker’s Sesame Chicken with Chili Dip as their top picks based on their recipes’ use of fresh, local ingredients, including Foster Farms locally-grown chicken. For complete recipes visit www.fosterfarmsandnewmansown.net/cookingcontest.

Kool and Baker beat out more than 2,000 home, amateur and professional chefs residing in California, Oregon and Washington who submitted their prized, original chicken recipes for consideration. Recipes featured fresh Foster Farms chicken and were inspired by local ingredients as a testament to Foster Farms’ commitment to foods that are fresh, locally-grown and always natural.

“These recipes were impressive,” said Ira Brill, director of communications for Foster Farms. “Both Russell and Timmy did a great job of pairing fresh Foster Farms chicken with ingredients central to Oregon cuisine. We look forward to hosting them at the Finals in just a couple weeks.”
