FOSTER FARMS HONORS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF EMPLOYEES’ CHILDREN Company-wide scholarship program celebrates academic success of 40 college students

9/1/2005
LIVINGSTON, Calif.- Foster Farms recently awarded forty (40) $1,000 scholarships to children of company employees in recognition of their scholastic and community achievements. The Foster Farms annual College Scholarship Program increased the number of scholarship awards this year due to an overwhelming response from highly qualified students.

The company will distribute the scholarships at awards ceremonies throughout company locations in California, and the Pacific Northwest. [FOR MODESTO AND MERCED PRESS: The ceremony for the Livingston region took place in early August and had a high turnout with nearly all of the award recipients in attendance. Foster Farms’ CEO, Ron Foster, personally presented the awards to each student.]

“These students are exceptionally hard-working and dedicated,” said Foster Farms CEO Ron Foster. “It is a great pleasure to meet them and to celebrate their success. As a company we are truly inspired by the dedication and achievement these students have demonstrated”.

Foster Farms started the scholarship program four years ago. The criteria for the awards are that each student must be enrolled in a 4-year university or college, must have completed one full year of courses at the time of application, must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or above, be enrolled in 12 units or the equivalent, and their parent must be a current Foster Farms employee. Applicants must also submit a presentation letter, two letters of reference and a copy of their most recent transcript. Students are permitted to apply each year that they are qualified. The program was publicized in employee newsletters, and applications were received in March and April. The program has grown in popularity since its inception and this year received more than 60 applications from interested students.

“Foster Farms has long been committed to supporting and improving education,” said Joanne Hull, Foster Farms’ HR Services Manager. “We are a family-focused company and this program is one way in which we can honor the achievements of our employees’ families while positively impacting employee lives.”

“When we first began reviewing the applications, we were amazed by the credentials of these students. The Foster family supported our decision to increase the number of award recipients because there were just so many qualified, deserving students. Many of them are the first in their families to attend college.”
