The town of Delta is often called "The City of Murals" for the large colorful paintings that cover the walls of downtown buildings and recount the lively history of the region, which was once a frontier outpost. The nearby Fort Uncompahgre Living History Museum allows visitors to step back in time and experience life in a trading post in the early 1800s.

Delta is situated on a plateau in the spectacular Rocky Mountains only two hours from Telluride and four hours from Denver.

Winter sports lovers will find downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling just a short drive away. The rest of the year, the region is host to a number of outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, river rafting on the Colorado River, camping, mountain biking, fishing, hunting and off-road vehicle fun. A number of state parks are located in the region, including Black Canyon National Park, Crawford State Park, Paonia State Park and Sweitzer Lake.
